White Cars in Ethiopia
The capital of Ethiopia, Addis Ababa, is the only city in the world where all city taxis are old Soviet "kopecks" VAZ-2101. It doesn't matter that this model was discontinued back in 1988. Here they are still in operation, although, in the main, they literally look like buckets with bolts. In addition to "kopecks" sometimes there are VAZ-2102, 2104 and 2105, but not so often.
Many of these machines were re-exported from Holland many years ago. Some of the Soviet cars appeared in Addis Ababa in another way - by direct deliveries from the USSR as technical assistance in the late 70s.
Taxis in Addis Ababa come in two colors - yellow (tourist taxis) and blue with white roofs (regular city taxis). Yellow, as a rule, are more modern cars, there are even 15-year-olds, but blue ones are our ancient "kopecks".

In Waddis Ababa, the capital of Ethiopia, many thousands of old Zhiguli still serve local taxi drivers with faith and truth.
Once the USSR, in search o White Cars in Ethiopia f "friends" on the "black continent", boosted billions of dollars, alas, except for the ancient "Zhiguli" on the streets of Addis Ababa, 25 years later, nothing of one of the main "fortresses of socialism" in Africa remained. Today, the vast majority of cars from Togliatti are painted blue and white, just like taxi drivers in Ethiopia should.
The love for "kopecks" is so boundless that in the early 90s, after the end of the "friendship" of this proud country with the USSR, due to the collapse of the latter, the locals began to drive classic "Ladas" from Europe! First of all, from the Netherlands, they were inexpensive there, and there were no problems with spare parts at that time.
Probably, all taxis are kanarechnaya "Kalina"?! ..
there is a funny picture - in the same ranks you can find both the VAZ-2101 family and the SEAT-124, the Spanish brother of a penny.
It would be interesting to hear a comment from the head of the transport department himself, who was repeatedly noticed earlier in the daily and irreconcilable criticism of cars from the domestic auto industry. Maybe the Africans were able to explain to him with a clear example of their sincere commitment and, of course, some of the indisputable advantages of operating a carburetor, distributor and other practically eternal and low-cost devices in harsh operating conditions, well, when the machine is used, for basic needs, and not for show-off? !
Julian Mn There are as many as 8 (eight) cars in the frame. I have traveled many kilometers and years on such a "six" and I dare say - this is a good car. And a bad dancer will always get in the way. The whole question is only in the starting point (according to Archimedes) and in the presence of insurmountable show-off.
Looks like their climate is not so detrimental to our cars.
Firstly, the export option is not radically the best, but still a better product than that shit that has always been offered for 3-4 times more expensive on the domestic market! Secondly, these "miracles of Soviet technology" must have been hand-picked and reassembled many times - here's an explanation for you ..!
