Lenovo is constantly updating the lineup to bring it as close as possible to modern mobility standards without compromising on quality or performance. Our 14-inch ThinkPad T440 also features updated input devices and internals - as you can see, a lot has changed. Is Lenovo's refurbished work laptop suitable for serious tasks? Almost two years have passed since the release of our immediate predecessor (ThinkPad T430). Much has changed during this time - Intel has practically ousted its main rival, AMD, from the market, inflicting a crushing defeat on the laptop and especially desktop PC market with the help of several generations of Core processors. But instead of resting on its laurels, Intel decided to create a decidedly new market by introducing the concept of the Ultrabook - a stylish, thin, lightweight and powerful enough laptop with a long battery life. The concept has been so successful that almost every laptop category is starting to follow it - Razer has even managed to fulfill its long-held dream of a "gaming ultrabook" with the 14-inch and 17-inch Blades (and have updated the hardware more than once). Business notebooks are no exception: even the basic configuration of our ThinkPad T440 offers a light and stylish chassis, good battery life and a low-voltage Intel processor. We decided to test a fairly powerful configuration with an Intel Core i7-4600U processor, a 500 GB hard drive and an HD (1600 x 900 pixels) screen. But if you are willing to pay more, then there are configurations with a 256 GB SSD and a built-in UMTS modem. This should not be: protruding edge The laptop case is almost the same as the Thinkpad T440s, but its dimensions are slightly larger. The laptop weighs 1.72 kg, which is 160 g more than the T440s with the same battery, but noticeably less than the T440p. Structural strength is satisfactory, but strong pressure on the bottom right of the bezel causes squeaks. The hinges are great: the screen can be opened with one hand, but at the same time it does not wobble. The build quality is good, but one significant flaw was found in our sample: the front edge of the bezel protrudes slightly and causes discomfort to the wrists lying on it. Probably, this drawback can be eliminated with sandpaper, but a laptop of this class is impermissible to require such barbaric improvement measures. Hopefully the problem only exists in our sample, otherwise prolonged use of the keyboard and clickpad will leave marks on your wrists. We recommend that you carefully check your laptop upon purchase for this flaw. Compared to the ThinkPad T430, the T440 is much thinner and lighter. The design of our laptop has become simpler, but also looks more elegant. The surfaces are more pleasant to the touch and of better quality. The color has also changed: it is now gray, but this is obvious only when compared with the matte black keys, and so the difference may not be noticed. There are no accessories included, but you can buy docking stations and a high-capacity battery. But the laptop comes with Windows 7 and 8 (both OS - 64-bit Professional-versions), so it will suit the adherents of both operating systems. The standard manufacturer's warranty lasts 3 years from the date of purchase and includes next business day onsite service. As usual, Lenovo offers to buy additional warranty extensions and various additional services. A lot has changed since the ThinkPad T430 ... Slim body, simplistic design - but still a typical ThinkPad. For comparison: these are the interfaces the T430 was equipped with. The T440 unpleasantly surprised us with its limited number of interfaces. Only two USB ports (it's good that both are 3.0) - this should be enough for most users, but on the right side of the case there is a lot of free space in the front, where you could put at least two more USBs. Of course, right-handers using a USB mouse would not be very convenient to use them, but they certainly would not be superfluous. At least one of the USB ports does not have to be occupied by an SD card reader - it is in the laptop. There are two video outputs: VGA and DisplayPort.
